From food stamp programs to recreational licensing to the WIC program, Hypercom
terminals and networks deliver benefits to millions of recipients.
Electronic Benefits Transfer
The major advantages of electronic benefits transfer (EBT) are the reduction in
fraud and the security of benefits disbursed to recipients. Many world government
and healthcare leaders believe that standard transactions, electronically communicated
between providers and responsible payment agencies, dramatically reduce the cost
of processing medical claims, referrals, and payments. EBT allows government officials
to:
- Track when funds are distributed and through what merchant
- Track who receives funds
- Profile and identify irregularities
- Develop a worldwide network for transmitting
Currently, EBT transactions are performed with magnetic stripe cards and network
applications using existing banking technology. Research is investigating opportunities
for using smart cards for the next generation of multi-applications, including third
party payment and healthcare.
Hypercom terminals and Hypercom network technology deliver the ideal solution for
EBT because they lend themselves to easily managing multiple government software
applications end-to-end. Our terminals can also incorporate a smart card reader
providing a solid migration strategy for EBT to move to EMV-type transactions without
having to replace POS devices.
