The Hypercom® Key Loading and Management (HKLM) PIN pad loader system is a protected key management system designed to build secure keys and safely inject them into Hypercom terminals and PIN pads. This system will normally be used at a bank or processor deployment center and be situated in a secure environment. The software application is designed to run in Microsoft Windows environments.

Performance

• The HKLM PIN pad key management system divides the process into three major tasks: building keys, entering key components, and injecting keys
• Using a PC and the PIN pad loader system, key components are entered on the secure Hypercom Key Loading Device (HKLD)
• Keys are encrypted with a check value so that when the HKLD produces a key for injection, a cryptographic check value is also produced. Secure information is then sent back to the PC to be managed
• Completed keys can then be injected into PIN pads or terminals via the connected HKLD.

Security

• When not in use, keys and their properties are typically stored on media and placed in secure locations
• To operate, two users with the same access level must log in at the same time. Dual login must be supervised
• Unencrypted information is never stored on the PC. This provides a high level of security. All secure information, such as encrypted key values and passwords are entered only on the HKLD.
